4) 2017 Alameda World Tournament Baseball
In our effort to promote baseball here in the Bay Area, we, BAKBA League and Alameda County, have joined together to support this event, 2017 Alameda World Tournament Baseball! We, BAKBA League, are looking for volunteers who are willing to support Korean Team by providing Home-Stay service for the Korean players (14-15 years) who will be participating in this 2017 Alameda World Tournament Baseball Event. Please check out the website and read below details;
https://leagueathletics.com/Page.asp?n=109094&org=ALAMEDAWORLDBASEBALL.COM
"Alameda is hosting a 14-15 year-old baseball tournament at the College of Alameda from Aug 5-13. We'll have teams from Korea, Japan, Australia, Mexico, Germany, Italy, San Diego, Fresno and Alameda. Each team will have 20 players. As the tournament host, we are required to home stay the non-US teams. Since there are 6 non-US teams with 20 players each, we need 60 families to home stay two players each. We already have a lot of home stay families in Alameda, but we don't have enough families at this point.
I mentioned this tournament to some of your players when I've umpired your adult league games. A couple of the players mentioned that they might be interested in home staying. If some aren't interested in home staying, they might want to come to the College of Alameda to root for the Korea team. Admission is free throughout the tournament.
I'm wondering if any of your Korean families would be willing to home stay two Korean 14-15 year-olds during the tournament. The players are all from the Seoul area. The responsibilities are to provide housing (separate beds are not necessary, air mattresses on the floor would work too), feed the players, take them to their games at the College of Alameda and pick them up). They will have games on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday at varying times. Wednesday we're all going to the A's game. We'd have tickets for the home stay families as well. They cannot be left alone except at the ball park. Otherwise, someone 18 or older has to be with them.
I've attached a schedule so you'll have a better idea of what's happening. The Welcome Party is for everyone, including the home stay families
Below is some additional information prepared by our home stay coordinator.
2017 will have special meaning in Alameda because the best 14 and 15 year old baseball players from around the world will be coming to Alameda from August 5-13 to play in the World Baseball Tournament. Traditionally, international team players are home-stayed with families in the local community. This year we will be hosting 6 international teams from Japan, Korea, Italy, Germany, Australia, and Mexico.
We need 50 to 60 families that are willing to host 2 players for a week. This is an incredible and unique cultural exchange opportunity. The week of home staying allows our international players to experience Alameda and the United States in a more personal manner.
The requirements are pretty basic - they need:
a place to sleep - it doesn't need to be separate bedrooms or even a 'bed' - couches or air mattresses are fine
meals with your family
transportation to and from their games and activities during the week (this can be coordinated/shared with other families to lessen the time commitment on each family)
They must be supervised by someone 18 or older when they are not at the ball park. Older sons, daughters, neighbors, friends, etc. over 18, can help fulfill this need.
What your family receives is much harder to list - it's a bit like those commercials; "PRICELESS"! You are guaranteed a 'once-in-a-lifetime' cultural experience with the opportunity to develop international friendships. Additionally, host families are encouraged to join us for the Welcome Party, the A's game as well as any of the tournament games themselves."
Please feel free to drop a line to bayareakba@gmail.com or call 213-507-9742 if you have any questions.
Once again, if you are a BAKBA League member you are part of something great!
Play hardball!
Don't settle for anything less!
